[Technical tips] Backup/Restore EBOX disk image with USB Image Tool

USB Image Tool is a Windows application for creating image files from storage that can be converted with USB adaptor. No matter the storage contains files or OS (Windows, Linux, DOS or RTOS), user can use USB Image Tool to duplicate mass storage easily.

Preparation:

  • Windows PC x1 set (Windows 7 or higher)
  • EBOX Boot up storage: SD/CF Card x1 pcs (16GB or higher capacity recommended)
  • SD/CF Card reader x1 pcs
  • EBOX Mini PCx1 pcs
  • USB Image Tool (Download from here)

How to Backup/Restore EBOX disk Image with USB Image Tool


Backup EBOX disk image by using USB Image Tool

Steps of operation

  • Remove the SD/CF Card from the EBOX.
  • Connect the SD/CF Card to a Windows PC using an SD/CF Card reader.
  • Extract the downloaded USB Image Tool, and double-click USB Image Tool.exe.
  • Change the USB Image Tool options settings:
    1. Go to Options.
    2. Check the following options:
      Ignore size checks for gzip images
      Show completion message after operation
      Show non-removable devices
    3. Select the device: SD/CF card reader.
    4. Click Backup.
    5. Set the Backup Image directory, file name, and save as .img format.
    6. Click Save to execute.
    7. A pop-up message will appear after the Backup is completed.

Restore EBOX disk image by using USB Image Tool

Steps of operation

  • Remove the SD/CF Card from the EBOX.
  • Connect the SD/CF Card to a Windows PC using an SD/CF Card reader.
  • Double-click USB Image Tool.exe to execute it.
  • Change the USB Image Tool options settings:
    1. Go to Options.
    2. Check the following options:
      Ignore size checks for gzip images
      Show completion message after operation
      Show non-removable devices
    3. Select the device: SD/CF card reader.
    4. Click Restore.
    5. Find the Image directory and click the image file.
    6. Click Open to execute.
    7. A pop-up message will appear after the Restore is completed.
