What is BIOS?

The BIOS is the software stored on the memory chip on the motherboard. It instructs the computer on how to perform a number of basic functions such as booting and keyboard control. Alternatively referred to as a RTC (real-time clock), NVRAM (non-volatile RAM) or CMOS RAM.

Target Device:

We will be using the VDX2-6554 to be the target device in this section.

The methods that could used for BIOS reset are:

  1. Press F9 in the BIOS to load the default setting
  2. Pressing the End key on the keyboard while booting up the board (Based on ICOP's VSX and VDX series board)
  3. Discharging the CMOS battery

The steps to reset the BIOS

  1. The wrong settings of the BIOS may cause abnormal behavior on the board, and resetting the BIOS sometimes could easily resolve the problem
  2. Use a conductor like a wire to connect the onboard battery Positive and Negative for 3 seconds (The picture shows the VDX2-6554 contact point)
