SoC (System-on-Chip)

SoC (System on Chip) is a major revolution taking place in the design of integrated circuits responding to the unprecedented levels of integration demand. In the past 10 years, SoC has emerged and accepted as one of the most efficient approaches in PC applications design.

SoC is the technology to place multiple function systems on a single silicon chip, cutting development cycle while increasing product functionality, performance, and quality. With this advantage in hand, SoC enables SBC manufactures to provide products with the features of tiny dimension, high integration, low power consumption, simplicity, etc.

Based on the trend and demand of market, ICOP adopts SoC concept as the basic design foundation since 1987.ICOP is confident to provide top quality embedded products to address requirements in terms of splendid performance, low power consumption, mini size, wide working temperature range, highly integration, etc.

Product Milestone Highlights

To keep being the leader of embedded PC design, over the course of several years, ICOP has provided the most suitable and advanced SoC solutions by probing market need and change. With complete design, research and production lines, ICOP has produced series of standard products as the following.

Etc.

1995

ICOPreleasedM6117D series that dominated the world market share of 386 CPU.

ICOP-6050 (PC/104)

ICOP-6052V (PC/104)

ICOP-6053 (PC/104)

ICOP-6022 (Half-size)

ICOP-6026VE (3.5”-size)

Etc.

Cooperating with ALi, ICOP developed its first own made 386SX CPU dubbed M6117D in 1995.By its tiny dimension and highly integrated system design, M6117D dominated the world market share of 386 CPU. Since then, ICOP has supported more than 30 kinds of standard products, as well as approximate 100 kinds of OEM/ODM products.

In regard to the business expansion, ICOP teamed up with ZFx86 & STPC and became the No.1 (by quantity) SBC maker of STPC-75MHz and ZFx86 SoC in Taiwan. However, these two SoC designs have been phased out a few years ago.

To provide a broad variety of products segments, ICOP stepped further to present faster, more powerful processor titled Vortex86 in 2002. Thanks to the unremitting effort of pushing Vortex86‘s performance limit to unprecedented level, ICOP with Vortex86 SoC was recognized by Microsoft as 1 out of 8 CPU suppliers offering "WinCE 5.0 Third Party Solution" since June-29 2004.

With those top quality products, ICOP stands as the forerunner of the world embedded PC design.

 Features of M6117D

For entry-level and cost-efficient x86 embedded solution, ICOP delivered DM&P M6117D, an embedded x86 System-On-Chip solution using 386-core (shown as the right figure). To lower peripherals & components requirements for the finished processor board, DM&P M6117D's design incorporated many common I/O functions required by industrial & commercial application such as DIO, RTC, Keyboard & Mouse controller, IDE controller, Memory controller, Watchdog timer, etc.To help our clients to reduce cost & risk in developing new products, ICOP provides Board-Support-Package for Embedded Linux, and Local & Wide area networking support for DOS.

Features of Vortex86

The single chipset, Vortex86 family, provides high performance/cost ratio SoC (System on Chip) solution by integrating an x86 compatible processor, high performance North Bridge, advanced hardware GUI engine and Super-South bridge (shown as the right figure). In addition, Vortex86 family complies with Easy PC Initiative that supports Instantly Available/OnNow PC technology, USB, Legacy Removal, CIR, Memory Stick, Smart Card and Slotless Design for a variety of IA (Information Appliance) applications.Vortex86 family integrates a high-performance processor that supports x86 instruction set with 3 integer units, 3-way superscalar architecture, and a fully pipelined floating point unit. Moreover, the processor is a power-efficient design that optimizes the power consumption for information appliance applications.

Concepts of ICOP’s Designing for Single-Board-Computers

To meet the harsh industrial standard, ICOP’s SBC products are all based on the following advanced design concepts:

With strong know-how and experience in designing embedded boards, ICOP guarantees that all boards can operate between -20°c to +70°c.For some specific embedded boards, such as 6050M, they are able to operate from -40°c to +80°c.
With military-standard component DALLAS 1811, it is allowed to delay generating POWER GOOD signal the CPU, when the operating temperature is under 0°c.ICOP’s embedded boards can cold boot from -20°c (optional -40°c).
The manufacture’s default Quick Boot BIOS allows the system to be booted (Power-On-Self-Test) within 3 seconds. This hassle free design has made the 386 system more efficient than ever.
For the harsh industrial application, power consumption plays a critical part.ICOP provides the lowest consumption solution in all serial embedded boards, which could be as low as +5V@400mA.
With the intelligence PCB layout design and the lowest power consumption components, ICOP provides customers with solutions of Fanless and Heatsink-free design.
For user-friendly concerns, ICOP products are in support of DSock(DOS TCP/IP) WinCE.NET and Linux.Users can choose any of the preferences for their own applications.
Responding to environment friendly design, ICOP is planning to have most its products Lead Free complied by the June of 2005.
